Due to the expansion of the e-commerce industry the demand for modern warehouse facilities will see a significant growth. The hospitality sector is also taking a turn on the development side which in turn creates the need for hotels and restaurants. The developed countries are also trying to build energy efficient and sustainable buildings which will definitely see the surge in consumption of cement and modern quality concrete.

Other segment:

Apart from the Residential and commercial segment it is seen that the development of infrastructure, bridges and roadways is on fast track. What was the Earning Calls of Ultratech Cement in Q2 .

Earning Calls is the value of sales, expenses, profits and new plans.

Ultratech Cement says that the cement business is not for everyone. It is for those who are very strong at heart.

Cement sector is directly linked to the fundamentals of economy. As India is a fast growing economy the demand for cement will also grow due to overall construction developments like roads, highways, bridges and buildings.

Due to initiation of war between Russia and Ukraine back in the year 2022 the price of fuels like coal petcock surged to 400$ and 260$ respectively. But then in Oct 2023 the price came to normal with a fear of increasing anytime. So stocking up the fuel when the price is low helps in painting the input cost.

If we talk about the maintenance cost then cement industry requires huge maintenance especially during Q2(July-Sept). 24 kilns were shut down for maintenance. And also other major one time expense include paying Rs 40 Crore as a bonus to the employees the reason was 100 million tons sale record the previous year.

What was the price of cement during Q2 (June exit to Sep exit)?

In India the price of cement grew by 7-8% but it grew by average of 1-1.5% in the quarter.

What was the plan to increase the capacity?

Ultratech was trying to achieve new capacity expansion of 24.4 million tonnes which included new capacity expansion of 22.6 million tonnes and addition of 3 slag mills with a capacity of 1.8 million tonnes. The target is to achieve 159.65 million tonnes by June 2025. The vision is to reach 200 million tonnes and the plan was ready and summited to the board.

What about the Capex and Working Capital?

Ultratech did a capex of Rs 2,545 crore in Q2 mainly for the expansion. When the fuel price was low they already stocked up having value of Rs 600 crore. Though the debt figure in Q2 was Rs 4,917 crore there was no problem as everything was running as per the plan.

The two major composition of cement are:

Calcareous Material:

Calcareous Material are the raw materials of cement that contains calcium carbonate . Limestone is the primary source of calcium carbonate. When limestone is headed at a high temperature it breaks easily and react with the materials to form cement clinkers which further forms cement.

Argillaceous Materials:

Argillaceous materials are the raw materials of cement that contains primarily silica and alumina which are mostly found in clay. When these materials like silica , alumina and iron ores react with limestone it form cement clinker. The argillaceous material enhances the strength and durability of the cement.

Limestone :

Limestone is the primary and important component of cement. Limestone contains calcium carbonate which provides lime(calcium oxide) which is the integral part of cement mix. It is the base of cement and provides strength and stability in the cement.

Clay or Shale :

Clay contains alumina, silica and iron ores which help in chemical reaction in the process of cement production resulting in the formation of clinkers . The cement clinkers are further grounded in powder to form cement.

Gypsum :

Gypsum is added during the grinding process of cement. It is used to control the setting time of the cement. Id doesn’t allow cement to set quickly which aids in different kind of application.

Iron ores :

Iron ore is an important part of cement mix which provide necessary iron oxide for easy formation of clinker. Iron Oxide is used as a fusing agent which reduces the melting point of the other raw material and combine to form solid durable product called clinker

Pozzolans:

Pozzolans contains Alumina and Silica . The common pozzolans include volcanic ash, fly ash and silica fumes which increases the strength and durability of the cement and protect it from chemical shocks and environmental degradation.

Clinker:

When all these raw materials are heated at very high temperature in a knil , the calcination process starts and following the chemical reaction a substance is formed known as clinkers. Clinker is further powdered to form cement.

The reason is the decrease of custom duty on palm oil and other edible oils. The government has reduced it to 10% which was increased to 20% from nil in the past eight months. The palm oil is mostly used in biscuits, chips, cookies, soap and detergents. This initiative by the government will help the manufacturers of packaged consumer goods in reducing the input cost.

In the past months it was seen that the higher input cost of packaged consumer goods resulted in price hikes but now the saved money can be used in advertisement and brand marketing which will drive volume based growth. The rate cut of 10% in the import duty and the reducing inflation is expected to provide meaningful cost relief, particularly in palm oil. This will further support price margins for food and beverages, as well as home and personal care companies.

The co founder of Joy personal care says though the price of palm oil has fallen the price of other raw materials are still on the higher side. But the market seems stable until something unexpected happens in the global boundaries.

The inflation rate rose to its slowest pace at 3.1% in April in the past six years on the back of lower food prices. It is expected by RBI to cut its key policy rates to stimulate consumption and spur economic growth. The country's weather forecast prediction of plentiful monsoon also boosted the agricultural production helping in lowering of the prices.

The company from Bikaner Bikani food International which went public in November 2022 , also anticipated that the price of the food products will be be nominal this financial year. He claimed that the wheat is not his major input raw material but the decrease in the price of palm oil will certainly create a volume based growth instead of price based growth.

Palm oil is 25 -30 % of the raw material used in the company.

In March quarter FMCG company has given a value growth of 11% year on year, but the high oil price have kept the staples expensive. So the gross margin was struggling due to costlier inputs like palm oil, tea, coffee and copra , said an analyst from Nuvama.

What Parle Products biscuit maker has to say on the rate cut of edible oils?

There will be halt in the price hikes of its products in the year FY26.

Though there is a rate cut in palm oil which will show as reduction of Rs.13 - 14 per Kilograms, but due to tightening of Malaysian ringgit there will be a net-net of Rs 8-10 in price reduction, says Mayank Shah, vice president of Parle Products.

India imports palm oil from the two southeast Asian nations Indonesia and Malaysia which are the world's largest and second largest exporter of commodities respectively.

If the rate cut of custom duty was not announced Parle would have increased the price of its products due to inflated price of raw materials like milk, tea, coffee and cocoa.

They are also termed as liquid, quick or floating assets.

So, what are those that can be termed as current assets.

• Cash and it's equivalent

• Inventory kept for the purpose of sale

• Receivables (Money that is due for the goods sold)

On the other hand..

Current Liabilities are those debt that has to be paid off, i.e. outflow of cash or its equivalent from the company in short span of time( the duration is atmost a year).

So Current Liabilities can be classified in broader way under following category:

• Accounts Payable (Owed money to be paid in the process of doing business)

• Accounts Expenses (Salary to the employee and other expenses done during the process of business)

• Income tax Accrued (unpaid portion of the extra profit earned during the year)

• Bank Loans or Notes Payable ( Money borrowed from the Banks)

• Dividend Payable (Extra profit sharing to the shareholders)

• Customer Advances

After savings comes the investment part. Investment means you are putting your money in some assets where your money is expected to grow and multiply in future giving you profit. When we earn more after a salary hike or job switch we start to increase our living cost and lifestyle ending up spending all of the extra income we received. Instead we should focus on increasing the investment when we get a salary hike, in fact, investing all of the salary hike so that we can lead a comfortable and stress-free life.

• Debt over debt : Try to minimize your slowly in the long run. Don't get trapped in the easy loans offered by the banks. Generally what mistakes people do is they take another loan to repay the previous one , thus, getting caught up in a debt cycle which becomes difficult to break.

The change in the trend or pattern of businesses or the market is the market cycle. Some businesses of a particular industry will outperform at one time in response to the demand and expected growth influenced by the domestic and geopolitical factors while the other will see a downtrend. Marico Ltd. - the maker of Parachute oil and Saffolla cooking oil. The India's FMCG sector is growing fast and the strong demand from the rural area with ease in the price of food, the sector is optimistic in taking a new direction. It is expected tha the volume of the FMCG sector will see slight growth in the financial year 2025-26 due to steady demand although the dramatic recovery may not be immediate as said by Saugata Gupta , MD and CEO of Marico Ltd.

As the inflation is slowing down the urban consumption is going to improve. So the overall growth for the consumer goods sector is definitely going to increase as compared to the previous year.

Dramatic recovery will not be there but we can see the changes as compared to what it was last year.

As we can see India's retail inflation grew by 3.16% year on year in April, which is the slowest growth in the past 6 years along with the lower food prices. The consumer price index linked inflation remained steady under 4% for three consecutive months. And Economist expect that there will be further rate cut by RBI in following monetary policy as a result there will be a spur in the consumption of consumer goods and economic growth.

The food inflation rates eased since November 2023 -

Between November 2023 and June 2024 - 7%

One year later (2025) - 4.83%

February - 3.75%

March - 2.69%

April - 1.78%

It is expected by the Marico's official that the good monsoon rain and government inclination towards improving rural infrastructure along with the minimum support price for the crops will result in improving the demand from the rural segment. In fact if there is even slight increase in urban demand the volume growth for the FMCG sector will increase definitely as compared to last year.

Marico is confident of delivering double digit revenue in the current fiscal year due to the increasing demands from both rural and urban sectors. Saugat Gupta the MD of Marico is also ready for any acquisition that fits adjacency criteria and fulfilling the portfolio gap in wellness segment.

Inflation would soften in second half.

India's FMCG industry reported 11% year on year value growth for the march quarter of FY 2024-2025, driven by 5.1% volume growth and 5.6% price hike according to NielsenIQ.

Though overall inflation is easing , the basket of staples is expensive due to high price of edible oil resulting in higher value growth. It is being said by most of the consumer goods company that urban demand is expected to grow.

Marico Ltd. the seller of edible oils, hair oils and personal care products faced inflationary headwinds as the price of edible oils remained higher in the second half of year 2024-2025.

As the news came that Reliance group is going to sell all its share of Asian Paints the price of shares of leading paint manufacturer company dipped 2%.

The Reliance group has asked Bank of America (BofA) to manage the transactions for the above purpose.

This is not the first time that Reliance is considering for cashing its 4.9% stake in Asian Paints. Back in the year 2020 too Reliance group has entered into a conversation with the banks for a potential sale of 4.9% stake in Asian Paints.

The worth of Reliance's stake in Asian Paints is Rs 10,925 crore after the closing price of Rs 2,325 as on 13th May, 2025. The company had acquired the stake in the year 2008 for nearly Rs 500 crore at a time when Asian Paint's stock was very dear to the market.

Is Asian Paint's stock under pressure ?

However, Asian Paints stock has seen significant selling pressure amid growing competitions in the paint sector, which could remove the company from the top place in the sector. The stock price of Asian Paints has also dropped 20% with a decline of 33% from its 52 week high of Rs 3,394.

Asian Paints has lost a lot more share than the expectations to the opponent Grasim Industries in the year since Kumar Mangalam Birla's Paint venture was launched.

Asian Paints share fell to 52% from 59% in just 12 month after end of 31st March. It is suggested that the Asian Paints , Industry leader should do more on marketing and give discounts to the retailers to maintain its top place in the industry.

What Elara Securities said after the Q4 results of Asian Paints last week?

The Paint Makers said in its Q4 result that the rising competition with the new players is the reason behind declining in market share. The company's focus is on creating strong brand, value offerings and maintaining a balance between margins and market share. But the market share will be under pressure unless the competition eases.

Let's see Asian Paints Q4 result;

Net profit for Q4 FY25 - decline of 45% in YoY net  profit at Rs 692.13 crore as compared to Rs 1,256.72 crore in Q4 FY24.

Revenue - Fall of 4.3% YoY to Rs 8,358.91 crore from Rs 8730.76 crore.

PBDIT - Dropped 15% to Rs 1,436 crore while PBDIT margin narrowed to 17.2%, down from 19.4% YoY.

The effect of ceasefire between India and Pakistan was seen in the Key Benchmark indices of Indian stock market. The Nifty50 indices opened upside at 24,420 and jumped to a high of 24,737 with a gain of 700 points. The BSE index also opened high at 80,803 touching an intraday high of 81,830. Within a few minutes of opening 30 stocks reached its intraday high with a gain of over 2200 ponts. The Bank Nifty index also opened at 54,658 regaining 55K peak by hitting an intraday high of 55,292.
